RODEO STOCK CONTRACTOR NEWS
"Walt Alasbaugh Inducted into Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City"
Walter
Alsbaugh (1918-1992), Colorado, entered his first rodeo at age 13 and
won the calf roping. He competed in all events except bareback riding
and was one of the first men to ride bucking horses “Midnight” and
“Five Minutes to Midnight.” He was the first bull rider to use a
braided handhold in his bull rope. The Walt Alsbaugh Rodeo Company began when he purchased three professional stock contracting companies and produced his first rodeo in 1953. He was the first contractor for the 101 Ranch Rodeos, which he produced until 1990. He took stock to every National Finals Rodeo except 1959, until the company sold in 1994.
Always searching for new talent, he was instrumental in helping new specialty acts and bull fighters get their start. He was named the 1981 International Rodeo Fans Man of the Year, 1986 PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1990.
A tall banner of a little girl with sparkling blue eyes doing a silly dance welcomed spectators to the Xtreme Bulls, April 4-5 at the Laughlin Events Park. Randy Corley looked at the picture and knew it was not going to be an easy day at the microphone. “I’m not so sure I can do this,” said the 10-time PRCA announcer of the year, pulling his hanky out of his pocket. As well as announcing the two-day Laughlin Xtreme Bulls, it was Corley’s job to explain the Tough Enough to Fly Pink fundraiser.
Since 1976, Honeycutt Rodeo has been one of the few stock contractors/rodeo producers to have been a part of every National Finals Rodeo and also has been chosen 23 times since 1979 to provide their top bucking horses and bulls for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Four generations of horses can be seen running the high plains of our Alamosa Colorado ranch, waiting their turn to show what they’ve got. "Some of the best stock in the rodeo business is raised here".
